Don’t use AFT - here’s why.
AFT inspected our building for the Annual Fire Safety Statement (AFSS) that needs to be submitted to council and the fire brigade each year.
They identified a number of items that required work to be done and provided quotations for this work. In their quotations they stated that if we used a third party to do this work then they would charge us $1,000 to reinspect EACH item! This set off the alarm bells for us so we checked with other fire companies and found that AFTs quotations for the work were exorbitant.
So, what we did was engage another company (Red Element) to do the work and complete the outstanding items on the AFSS for Council.
In this process we also discovered that AFT were quoting for work that did not even need to be done for the AFSS e.g. a back pressure test which Sydney Water advised was not even necessary for our building!
I have contacted the ACCC over this matter as it seems to me that this threat of charging $1,000/measure is designed to try and force us to use AFT and as such is anti competitive.
Bottom line is simple - don’t use AFT
