Overall

We worked with Godwin Elevator on a residential install for one of our listings. Kevin, the sales representative, provided a prompt response to our request for a quote and was always available with any questions or concerns. But their excellent customer service didn't stop there, Alex Godwin followed up to make sure we were pleased with the level of service we were receiving (which we were beyond pleased). The quick correspondence, knowledge & ability to problem solve, friendliness, and genuine care for the project made them an absolute joy to work with and we will most definitely be recommending them to all our colleagues.

We purchased a home in Raleigh with an elevator and it needed some work. After searching I found Godwin Elevator and had them come out to address the issue that was found during the inspection. While here, they discovered some issues with the electrical service and we had them back to make those repairs as well. A week later the initial issue they fixed reoccurred and after a conversation with them where I learned the original repair would not be covered under warranty we had them back to do the third repair.
Well, today my son and two dogs got stuck in the elevator. Godwin did dispatch a technician and he arrived and had them out in about 30 minutes.
So why the one star review you might ask?
A bit of it is because they charged me a second time for work that had already been done with their first visit.
But the real reason is because while I was on the phone with their office, the owner of the company called me on the other line to first tell me that the tech was on his was, but the REAL reason for the call was to remind me that the invoice he had emailed me, which I never received, for the third repair job was still outstanding and that I needed to have a check for the tech when he arrived. So he was making a collections call WHILE MY SON WAS TRAPPED IN THE ELEVATOR THAT THEY HAD BEEN TO MY HOUSE TO FIX THREE TIMES PREVIOUSLY.
To add insult to injury, he called me back post-tech visit. When I told him that asking for money while my son was trapped was not a great idea, he proceeded to argue with me that it was perfectly appropriate to demand payment from me during that call, that he had "dispatched the tech in good faith" and that "he needs to look out for his business".
We had previously paid "his business" more than $7000. He could have taken one look at our account and known we weren't going to stiff him on this latest invoice. This guy doesn't understand customer service. There was no apology for the elevator not functioning again. No acknowledgement that he'd made a customer service faux pas. No "thank you for your payment" - because I did hand the tech guy a check for the outstanding payment before he left. Just pure "I'm right, you're wrong."
I am shocked at how a company that treats its customers with such contempt is still in business. We will not be having them back to our home for a fourth visit.
Pound sand, Godwin Elevator. And maybe take a customer service etiquette class while you're at it.

When your company name is on the side of your trucks your employees shouldn’t be driving suicidal on 540 like it’s a racetrack. It doesn’t represent your company well.

Smartrise has been working with Godwin Elevator for years, and we always appreciate and respect the way this company does business. Their professionalism and expertise is always welcomed, and their employees in the field are extremely knowledgeable about our products, making training and installation of our controllers even easier! We love working with Godwin Elevator, and look forward to supplying them many more controllers in the future!

I selected Godwin to maintain all of my building’s elevators (33 total, several of each major brand) a little over a year ago and they’ve done a great job. Kevin and Alex are easy to work with and Wes is extremely responsive when we call in a service issue. I highly recommend.

ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGED WITH THIS COMPANY !!!!! My in-laws recently relocated from Maryland to North Carolina. My father-in-law is a disabled veteran and was hoping to find a home that would accommodate his needs. Upon viewing the property, the realtor made them aware the lift was currently not working but would be repaired prior to closing per the seller and seller’s agent (AUTUMN BUDDE) of Coldwell Banker Advantage. It was the agents (AUTUMN BUDDE) responsibility to facilitate the repairs. She hired GODWIN ELEVATOR CO to REAPAIR the lift. They charged 1285.00 for the repairs that was not repaired. Few days later lift is not working they return with an estimate of 2118.00 stating it was not repaired properly THEIR COMPANY. It appears that something UNETHICAL was done. You made a quick profit without completing the repairs knowingly, and Autumn Budde (Agent) seemed to only be concerned with her commission check. I say KNOWINGLY because your company website advertises Its 35 years of experience and all of your certifications and how you don’t cut corners when doing repairs (your words verbatim) you also state “ your work is complete with care and precision to ensure that your elevator is working efficiently and correctly” and “ You have the best available and nothing is more valuable than CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. WOW great use of adjectives to lure your customers in to your overpriced unreliable and NON guaranteed work. With all your credentials and experience you did the repairs on their property but DON’T stand by your highly knowledgeable technicians. The question of the day is this ……. Are you exaggerating your companies’ credentials or were you part of the shady deal? It’s one or the other. Unfortunately, my in-laws are the ones who suffered during this already difficult time. It’s seems like your company lost your integrity on this deal. You made NO effort to right this wrong. I also found it interesting you had very few good reviews to have been in business so long but magically after my father-in-law posted his a few hours later you got reviews. Your focus was on the wrong efforts. I leave with this quote “Money can extinguish intrinsic motivation, diminish performance, crush creativity, encourage unethical behavior, foster short term thinking, and become addictive”. Zero stars……. buyer beware

Unbelievable – Workmanship a bust! Relocated from Maryland and purchased a home to accommodate my disability condition. Prior to moving into this wheelchair accessible house, we were made aware that the lift needed repair. The realtor hired Godwin Elevator Company in Raleigh, NC to repair the lift and based on their invoice it indicated two technicians would trouble shoot lift. Believe it or not @ the rate of $287.00 per hour with a minimum of two hours equaling $1148.00 plus travel mileage $51.04; total bill $1285.00 including tax. The shame of it all according to the invoice “Result: From troubleshooting, determined that both batteries were bad. Replaced batteries,” however; after only using the lift two times it stopped running within one week of moving into our home. I’m a disabled veteran and this lift is my life line in leaving/entering our home and community. My wife and I relocated to North Carolina from Maryland and have never been in a situation where we would think a company such as Godwin Elevator does not back/honor their workmanship with a guarantee especially with the astronomical rates they charge “By performing this work, Godwin Elevator makes no guarantees, express or implied, about the future working of the elevator.” How do you provide a service and after a week’s time provide another quote for $2118.70 to repair a minute issue such as the charger that’s ridiculous. It seems if the batteries were dead, the next step in trouble shooting would have been to check the battery charger; they apparently did not. After finding another local company the lift was repaired for less than a $1000.00. I will never refer Godwin Elevator to anyone, especially with my professional background both with the State of Maryland and the Department of Veteran Affairs as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor after my retirement from the military where my customers were all individuals with disabilities (civilian & military population).

Very disappointed with the service provided by this company. On February 19 2019 this company was call out to do a repair on a lift at 25 Forest Hill Court in Sanford NC. The Mechanic did trouble shoot the lift and billed for 2-Hours. An additional 2-Hour Travel time was charged on the invoice. Plus .58 per mile of travel. The determination that was made was that the batteries were bad and a service charge of $1285.97. The unit appeared to function when the mechanic left the premises. A disable veteran purchased the property and moved in on February 22,2019. The new owner was able to use the lift in order to access the property. And on February 27, 2019 less than a week later the veteran call to say the lift had stopped working and he was unable to leave the property. Godwin was called since the repair was had been completed just 1 week before the veteran moved into the home. Godwin came out to the property and gave a estimate of 2118.70 to repair the lift. The Technician said the lift was not properly repaired but offered no discount on future repairs...Noted on receipt the company does not make any guarantees for work preformed or the operations of units they repair. Another company was called and the unit was repaired for less than 1000.00. With a guarantee on workmanship. Think twice before calling this company for repairs...Anyone that would take advantage of a veteran definitely cannot be trusted on repairs...Should have been Zero stars.
