Overall

We had a locksmith come out to make a duplicate key for our car (we had one key, which was working fine, but wanted a back up.) The locksmith arrived in a little car with a woman. He took our key and cut a duplicate on a little machine that he pulled out of his car. When the key didn't fit in the ignition he took out a hammer and pounded it in. (I have a recording of the pounding, which I could hear from inside the house.) The key still didn't work, and he told me he didn't have the right part for the machine, so he needed to leave and get a different part. I tried putting our regular key in, but now the ignition wouldn't start. So he got in my car and started turning the key and cursing. He jumped out muttering explatives and told me that someone would be in touch, and then drove off, leaving me with a now non-working car. I was not able to pick up my three young kids from school, or get them to any of their activities all night. When I called to find out what was happening the operator would tell me that someone would be in touch. SEVEN hours later, at NINE PM someone called me back and said that they could send someone to make a key in the morning and offered me at 10% ($10) discount. At this point I have to pay hundreds of dollars to have my car towed to a mechanic and then pay to have a new ignition installed. Absolutely do not recommend.

Worst company in Dayton and in the USA , customer service is nasty, prices for parts are 8 times higher, , the tech showed up 2 and half hours later than what he said , I am filling a complaint with the office of Ohio state attorney general this morning

Worst experience ever! Was quoted $400 over the phone, they charged $1300!! AND it took them 5 days to re-key one lock & install a deadbolt keypad on another door. Do NOT recommend.

I 100% do not recommend this company. My parents broke a tiny piece of their door latch and called this locksmith to replace it. They were told a technician would come within an hour. The technician came 2 hours later and replaced the entire door latch with a standard cheaper door latch instead of the dead latch my parents requested. The technician was nice and replaced it quickly (2 minutes) but my parents were never quoted a price and the technician didn’t ask if $286 was okay before replacing it.
Of course my parents paid the outrageous price. They called later to see if he could come back and replace it with the proper piece they asked for and they were thrown around to about 3 different people on the phone ALL DAY.
This honestly makes me think of senior fraud except for the fact that there are tons of reviews that say the same exact thing about outrageous prices that are not up front.
I later talked with a friend who said she had 4 latches and door knobs replaced at her house my gem city locksmiths for $189. Go with them!!
I never leave a bad review unless I have tried to remedy the situation first…. The only way I would take this down is if the locksmiths take back their latch and give a refund as requested.

Absolute disaster of an experience and a company. I strongly recommend against this company. Details below, if you are curious:

My wife needed a second key for our minivan. She purchased a blank off Amazon and called Dayton Ohio Locksmith to have the key cut and programmed. She was quoted a price of $100.
The first technician came out, broke the car's ignition, broke the key (the plastic housing for the keyfob), and left. This was at 5 pm.

My wife had to call the company back and request another technician. The second technician arrived at 10 pm. Fixed the ignition, programmed the second key, and charged her $550. She was not notified of the price increase until the work was completed. At that point, the technician held both car keys and would not give them to her until she paid. She called the company, who said that they could not help her - she should pay the amount. She called me - I was on a business trip. Imagine, she is standing outside at 11 pm at night, with a man who won't give her the keys, with three sleeping children in the house. She asked me what to do. I said, "pay him and we'll hash this out with the company later."

I called the company later, and requested a refund. They explained that, because the technician had to replace the ignition, the cost was higher. I explained (repeatedly) that the company's technician had broken the ignition, and so the company was charging me to fix what they broke. I also explained that no signal was given to the higher cost before the work was begun or completed. They said that they stood by their pricing and service and that there was nothing more to say.

I told them that I would be writing a google review so that, at minimum, no one else has to have this experience with such a dishonest company. That is the review you just finished reading.
