Overall

After purchasing our home, one of the first projects my wife and I decided to tackle was replacing our original wood windows and front door. We strongly considered restoring the existing windows, but many had started to rot. Additionally, our original windows were single pane, and with our house being close to a busy road, a goal was to reduce the outside road noise. After researching several companies, we selected Classic Sash and Door.

For the project's first phase, we had Classic Sash focus on our upstairs windows, a downstairs guest bedroom, and front door. About a year later, we contracted Classic Sash again for a second phase focused on our downstairs living room, dining room, kitchen, and bathroom. Overall, we're thrilled with the result and would hire them again in a heartbeat if needed.

A goal for the second phase of the project was to ensure the new dining room and living room windows blended with the old-growth cedar paneling on our walls. Classic Sash ordered the windows with a bare wood interior and replaced the interior trim. They referred us to Duane Pontius to faux finish the windows/trim to blend with the existing old-growth cedar paneling. The end result was flawless. The new windows look like they've always been a part of our house.

In retrospect, the only thing we would have done differently is to replace all windows with a full-frame replacement. We did a full-frame replacement for all downstairs windows and had inserts installed upstairs to save on cost. However, since our windows are relatively small, the ones with inserts are slightly smaller now. I don't put any of this on Classic Sash, as they informed us that the inserts would appear smaller once installed. However, I strongly recommend that anyone looking to replace smaller windows opt for full-frame replacements. The cost is a little higher, but it's well worth it.

What we appreciated most about working with Classic Sash was their transparent pricing, attention to deal, and overall integrity. During the initial phase of our project there was a miscommunication about the interior wood finish of the windows. We assumed that the windows being ordered would arrive with a factory finish that closely resembled our existing trim. Instead, the windows arrived with a clear coat finish that made the windows stand out. To resolve the issue, Classic Sash agreed to cover the cost for Duane to faux finish the new windows to match our original trim. Contractually, they weren't obligated to do this but did so to ensure we were happy with the final result.

To sum things up, if you're dealing with an old house like ours in the Portland Metro area and need new windows that fit the original style and character of your home, Classic Sash is the company to go with. Everyone we met from Classic Sash was a pleasure to work with.

I love my new windows from Classic Sash and Door, they’re great and have completely changed the house inside and out. I am so glad Bo ( in-house designer) suggested this design, it has totally settled into the house.
The installation team were very professional and considerate, did some nice carpentry around the windows to facilitate installation, protected the floors, left the place clean and tidied up everything.
I can’t wait to get the house painted to see it all come together.

It’s been a pleasure working with Bo and Classic Sash and Door. I highly recommend this company.

EDIT: **Situation addressed by Classic**

The owner of Classic reached out to me about this situation. With genuine integrity, he apologized and listened to my concerns. I am really impressed with how he handled this.
When we started shopping for a new front door, we were told Classic Sash&Door was the best, but that they were always behind schedule. Their salesperson was great. The price was high , but we found a beautiful door. The door is magnificent, and we are happy with it. But… the experience in between sales pitch and installation was shocking to us. There was no communication, they ran months behind schedule, and blew us off twice for estimates for another door (we found another contractor). I’ve owned a customer service business for 30 years, and I would not tolerate this type of lack of attention to details. I know their reputation is good, but for us it was only the finished product that satisfied us. I can’t see ever using them again in the future. One star for Thomas, one star for the Simpson door, and 0.0 stars for the company.

I had a great experience working with Bo and the entire team at Classic Sash & Door to replace 11 windows in my house. Bo paid particular attention to the style of my house and made excellent suggestions. He listened to my concerns about security and we were able to customize the placement of window locks so I can leave the windows open a bit wider than the factory installed locks which allows for more air flow. The guys doing the installation are skilled, neat and respectful. And, the Marvin windows are great quality. I highly recommend Classic Sash & Door Company.

From the estimate to the installation, Classic Sash and Door was excellent for our small remodel. The knowledge about the style and construction of our 100 year-old home that the estimator, Bo, shared was invaluable. We really wanted the new windows to match the rest of the house, and the space (my office/guest room) has been transformed in look, feel, and comfort! The windows are impeccably installed and the crew was professional, polite, and extremely attentive to safety and cleanliness. Everything was completed in the timeline they gave us at the beginning. We could not be happier with the service, the experience and the windows!

We had a front door recreated and installed by Classic Sash and Door. We live in Ladd’s Addition, an historic neighborhood in SE Portland, and needed to match our original door from 1932. We were very happy with all aspects of the job — the original assessment and consult, the door itself, the new hardware, the installation, the painting and staining, and the follow up when we had a question afterwards. Great communications and quality workmanship. I highly recommend them. They made a complicated project much easier.

When we bought our home last year, a 1909 Victorian farmhouse in North Portland, most of the windows were painted shut. We explored restoring them because we thought that’s what we should do with an old home, but we were convinced of the value of replacing them after meeting with Bo Sullivan, an old home specialist at Classic Sash and Door.

Bo taught us so much about our style of home, its unique features and how Classic Sash and Door could replace the windows which would reduce noise and improve energy efficiency while preserving the original look. (In fact, he later emailed us some history and photos of our home dating back 100+ years. What a gift!)

Installation was a 2 day process. The installers were professional, friendly, and very thorough. It’s quite a job to fit square windows in wonky frames. Our new windows are beautiful, work great and definitely improve the look of our home. Can’t wait to save up the money to replace the rest!
