I don’t often write reviews. In most cases, companies provide a product or service that I pay for, and the experience is nothing horrible and nothing great. Every now and then, but increasingly rare, I encounter a company that is truly remarkable. That just happened to me with a company called “Master of Plaster”, located in Landrum, South Carolina. They are the very best company I have dealt with in my 72 years, and that is saying something! Here’s the background. I had a very small project to repair some water damage (roof leak) to a corner of my living room ceiling. I have an older home and the walls and ceilings are plaster. I’m certainly not a professional by any means, but quite “handy”, having remodeled my kitchen and bathrooms myself, and I decided to do this repair. My online research indicated that some type of joint compound is commonly used nowadays for such a repair. I was prepared to go that route, but something kept telling me that using plaster to repair plaster was the correct method. Anyway, I somehow came across the Master of Plaster website, saw that they offered one gallon “sample” cans of their plaster, and decided to go that route. Boy, am I glad I did!! I didn’t initially read through their entire website information, so I didn’t realize until just the other day (after completing my project) just how high-end Master of Plaster is. They provide their products to many of the most impressive plastering companies across the country; companies that do historic renovation work or new construction on multi-million dollar mansions, etc. As such, the talented people at Master of Plaster could have easily blown me off, and advised me that they don’t cater to “little repair projects” or “Do-it-Yourselfers”. They did not. Quite the contrary, they treated me as if I was their most important client ever. If you go to the website and look up the family members who make up the company, you will see just how talented and experienced they are. Well, they are even more friendly and customer oriented! Kirstie, the Director of Business Development, arranged for shipping my order, but also took the time to check the weather and delay shipping for a few days to avoid any chance of the product freezing en-route to Wisconsin -- very competent and very impressive!! From that point on, Lauren, the Executive Designer, was an absolute treasure. Having never used plaster before, I was a bit intimidated. My previous online research indicated that plaster, unlike joint compound, was difficult to work with and should only be used by experienced plasterers. For large projects, I won’t necessarily dispute that, but I found the Restoration Plaster I received from Master of Plaster was quite easy to apply, especially the Finish Coat, which went on like soft butter and magically hid any minor blemishes on the Base Coat. What really made the difference was the assistance I received from Lauren. She answered every question I had and provided me with outstanding instructions and recommendations throughout the process, often suggesting little techniques that she personally found useful. Somebody put a quote on their website that says: “Clearly, Master of Plaster is a company which goes far out of its way to serve and guide their clients, no matter how small.” That describes my experience perfectly. I am beyond ecstatic with the results of my repair using their Restoration Plaster, and I can’t recommend them highly enough!! Like I said, the best company I have ever dealt with in my entire life!
