I purchased a 2000 square foot cabin and hired Gristmill to renovate it and to turn a carpentry and design studio into a guest house in Hyde Park Vermont. I chose Gristmill as I was new to vermont and every building or home I admired when I asked who built it I was told Gristmill Builders. After I consulted with a designer as to what I wanted and discovered the cost of making that happen the owner of Gristmill informed me that I would never be able to get my money out of the house if and when I were to sell it. He suggested I purchase a home that met my needs elsewhere or let him build me a home where I would be able to do so. I have never had a contractor be so honest and basically talk himself out of a job. I knew nothing about the area at the time and would have gone forward without his honesty. So we fixed up the cabin and Gristmill converted the carpentry and design studio into a beautiful house and I purchased a house in Stowe instead. Additionally, when I needed electrical and heating and plumbing work done on my Stowe home I contacted Gristmill and they actually told me it was okay for me to use their sub contractors directly to save me money. Needless to say whenever anyone asks me who I would recommend as a builder it is Gristmill. They do a fabulous job. They are honest and can be counted on to give you exactly what you want. The owner also has a flair for design and comes up with great ideas. They also are build environmentally conscious.
