Absolutely beautiful river and bridge. Per locals, this drive is a must. And they are correct. Make sure the highway is open. Depending on weather conditions, it opens around June 1, closes around October.

The bridge itself isn’t anything spectacular but it’s a must see the drive up is beautiful. And the view from the bridge is something to see. The wind was blowing about 60-70mph. Not sure if that’s normal or just that day but be prepared.

Awesome views. The bridge is very high up. Looks like you are at the grand canyon. Little windy that day.

We stopped at the overlook and used the restroom. The restrooms could use some cleaning. One of them had no toilet paper. The kiosks were great and had wonderful information about that area. It was beautiful and definitely worth the stop.

A must-stop spot when driving Hwy 296 – Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. This bridge is an engineering wonder. Take the time to walk around and enjoy the spectacular views from the bridge as well as from the canyon edge.

There is plenty of parking and vault toilets available.

While I was trying to take a few decent photos the group of young people had been pushing the huge rock on the bridge with a pretty clear intention to throw it into the river :))) But they had chosen too heavy rock for them... and all their attempts had failed. The rock was left on the bridge.
