I received a very professional service when I commissioned AFL to design and project manage the refurbishment of my flat. I was delighted with the end result of Victoria Havercroft’s designs. Karolina Banasik’s project management was faultless. She showed great attention to detail, involved me in every decision (which was what I wanted), was very patient with me and responded promptly to all my queries. The project did turn out to be very expensive. Even though the scope of works was scaled back from the original plans, AFL’s fee rose as construction costs rose with inflation. (This is not a criticism of AFL - I believe other architects charge according to a similar fee structure.)

We could not be happier with the outcome of our building project. From our initial conversation outlining our needs and desired aesthetic to the delivery of a stunning, stylish, and functional space, every step was met with thoughtfulness and skill. The team was incredibly considerate, understanding our vision while also ensuring our neighbours' satisfaction throughout the process. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend their services.

Architecture For London designed us a loft conversion which cannot pass building regulations. Their design was not deemed safe and in accordance with current building regulations.
In addition, our architect left mid project (with no given notice) and were not assigned another one due to their 'lack of resources'.
I highly recommend you do not use Architecture For London for your project.
UPDATE:
After reading their response, I'd like to clarify these points:
- The loft did not pass building control as there is a rule that says if a new bedroom is made in the loft above 7.5m, you will need a sprinkler system or a secondary route of escape.
- AFL did not point this out until 6 months into working on the project, and we'd been told together by Islington council. Our architect did not know the rule.
- We then had to put in a sprinkler system throughout my house, at the cost of £14k.
AFL wouldn't know about the builder or his methods, because they didn't really pay any attention and only visited the site once. The loft passed structural engineers calculations.
There has been no issue with the loft at all, other than the fact AFL did not point out this rule, which is the main point of hiring architects, to stay compliant. Islington council even asked me if AFL were ‘real’ architects.
Another point to note is that we were not rapidly moving forwards, it was AFL that took over a week to reply to emails and the entire project has stretched over 2 years. We did hear from them promptly to chase monthly billings.
We were pitched by the Managing Director of the company, and then passed onto a very junior member of staff.
I suspect the purpose of their response is to paint us irresponsible and haphazard but we appointed them as the builders started. Our builders worked hard, and AFL worked slow.
We certainly did not build “what we wanted” we have been living in an unfinished nightmare while we unpicked the preventable and costly mess created by AFL.

Working with Architecture for London has been an absolutely delight. They are proactive and solution-oriented and have an incredible ability to liase with our builders to ensure the project is running smoothly and make excellent decisions in a timely manner. They are also extremely knowledgeable around energy efficiency and are always thinking about the best interests (costs or otherwise) for the customer. Any refurbishment is typically stressful and Architecture for London removed a lot of that stress for us. We would highly recommend them!'
