THE MOSAIC TILE HOUSE, Venice, California:
The Mosaic Tile House in the heart of Venice is a dazzling, immersive experience that I’m happy I finally got around to seeing along with my brother who was visiting from Chicago. Two artists who found one another in this lifetime have expressed and transmuted their art and love in this eye candy display of brilliant color mosaics of glass along with found, donated, and scavenged art, and even transformed bathtubs. When the gates open (Saturdays only) the wonderland opens to the whimsical art of this husband and wife duo (Cheri Pann, Gonzalo Duran) who have been adding to this unique environment, ongoing for over 30 years. Vibrant colors engulf you in a feeling of “awe and wow,” much like the Antoni Gaudi use of mosaics in his art and architecture in Barcelona. The artists are on premise—it’s their home, after all, and it all provides a very warm, inviting, spirit-lifting, and welcoming experience to the outdoor premises and their inside kitchen-gift shop. There is a $20 entrance fee if reservations are made in advance. Worth it! Gonna go again!

Small but unique establishment. The owners are definitely a joy to engage with especially the husband.. I recommend purchasing tickets online in advance to save a few bucks.

If you’re in the area and looking for something artsy to do/see it’s worth the 30-45 mins you’ll spend walking around and taking photos. Gonzalo is very nice and has a dope studio out back that is open for viewing. We stumbled upon this little excursion randomly day of, unaware of the actual price ($20 per person) and that you (maybe) needed an appointment but Cheri surcharged us $25 per person so that left a little sour taste. Don’t be like us and book ahead of time if you’re in the area and want to check this place out.

This house seems like it popped out of a fairy tale. It's a fascinating place. 30 years in the making and still going. The owners are really humble, lovely couples who will greet you with big smiles and love to engage with you. They make all the tiles there at the house. Must visit their kitchen/gift shop. Every where you turn to is great for photo. I love the tip by the owner to use the glass piece for an awesome photo. You have to talk to him on how. He might even take one for you

Beautiful home that Cheri and Gonzalo worked on together. It's amazing how much art, time, and effort they put into making their home what it is today. There are so many little details in every corner that you could easily spend a couple hours just trying to go through it all. I'm glad to live close enough to be able to appreciate their work. Go check it out! Remember to reserve a time through their email, they are open most Saturdays.

Today was my first time visiting Cheri and Gonzalo’s 28 year, and counting, labor of love and I’m glad I finally was able to see it up close. I have been driving by it for years so I was very pleased to learn they offer self guided tours of the grounds for $20. Cheri greeted us at the front gate and was very polite and informative. She gave us a rundown of the history of the property and specific things to look out for. It was also nice seeing their own works of art in the studios in the back of the house.
It’s definitely a unique location and worth the trip to see something that took so much time, effort, and love to create.
