Similar to the most recent reviewer, we had previously had a positive experience with Academy Overhead Door roughly 8 years ago and therefore didn't think to check recent ratings. When one of the springs broke on our garage door on Saturday, August 12th, we were relieved to hear that they could come out that evening. James McGuffey and his son came to our house and installed a temporary fix, which rejoined the two broken pieces of spring by threading a piece of metal onto each end. We were instructed to use it sparingly until the springs could be replaced. We agreed that he would replace both springs and that we would pay half the cost upfront. We sent him $225 that night after reviewing the invoice. We followed up with him on Thursday, August 17th regarding installation and heard back the following day that he had been out sick but would be back to work the following week. He assured us he would reach out on Sunday, August 20th to schedule installation. We have not heard anything from him since August 18th despite many attempts to reach him. We also attempted to go to the physical address listed on their website, but no building with that address exists on Pinon Ranch View. He has simply disappeared with our $225. We ended up contacting another company to complete the repair, and we will be pursuing legal action against Academy Overhead Door to recoup the money we paid toward the garage door repair.

James McGuffey took my $250 deposit to order new springs, and now won't pick up the phone with a full voicemail box. Was initially responsive and came out quickly to look at my broken garage door springs. Said they would be in later in the week. Called back later in the week and he said he was hoping they would be in that day... Now, almost 2 weeks after they initially came out, I have not heard back and they won't answer the phone. I had used them in the past and they seemed good, but something has changed. I would NOT use Academy Overhead Door. They basically stole my $250 and disappeared into the night.

Shawn was excellent. He was even early to the appointment which worked out perfectly for me. He made a recommendation to replace the door rollers and I can barely hear my garage door go up and down now. It's awesome. I took a chance on a Groupon and I'm happy I did. I would not hesitate to call them for any future needs.

12/18/2019 Update: Called because of the great service that I have received before and because of the awesome sticker that they thankfully left for me. Diagnosed a very simple problem that caused a whole lot of issues on my end. Very fair in their pricing. Quick to respond. Took the time to explain the issue to me. I will call them whenever I need a repair and when I'm ready to change out my opener.

I had two garage door openers replaced and the service I received was more than I expected. Shawn replaced the openers quickly and made sure everything was properly working and I was completely satisfied with the installation before he left. I was really impressed with his attention to detail and professional manner in doing his job. My whole experience with Academy Over Head Door, from my first phone call to completion of the job, was top notch. Their pricing was the best I found. I was not disappointed with them in anyway. I highly recommend them.

Overall

Discovered Academy Overhead Door with Google search. Read customer reviews, and ordered service. My garage torsion springs were broken as well as several other track related items. The dispatch was nice and courteous. Time was arranged. Received an immediate call for an earlier reschedule (which I was pleased to get the work completed sooner). Shaun arrived with assistant, Matt. Both were respectful and knowledgeable. Work completed in 90 minutes. Price was itemized and fair. Very satisfied with the work and professionalism. I would recommend them.
