My mother has used Phong’s services for many years, and I’ve also referred several friends to his business. I hired Phong to completely redo two vintage pieces—a chair and a large sofa that belonged to my grandparents. The work was completed on time and I felt the pricing was reasonable; the overall quality was also very good. Those are the only reasons I left more than a single star with this review. After the pieces were completed, Phong told me to reach out with any concerns. Shortly after I picked up the pieces, I texted to let him know that the back cushions on the sofa needed to be reworked because they were way too thin. He hadn’t consulted with me on their dimensions; he had just gone with thinner widths because he said they typically look better that way (they don’t). He told me he was leaving for a vacation but could get to things after he returned. This was in May 2023. I texted him several times over the following months, with no response. Finally I heard back in August, at which point he said it would have to wait until after Labor Day. I said that would be fine, and I would touch base at the end of September to see where his schedule stood. That was my mistake—I should have informed him that it was his responsibility to keep me apprised if his availability since, as the business owner, he was the person who needed to make this situation right. Well, it fell off my radar, and Phong didn’t circle back to schedule anything. Fast forward to this month—after a hectic year, I texted him to apologize for my part in not keeping the channels of communication open, and asked if we could finally get the cushions squared away. To my dismay, he said I would have to pay to have them fixed since so much time had passed, even though I had tried to get them fixed last summer and he ignored all of my efforts to connect and get something on his books. The fact that I had to send multiple texts at all is ridiculous—a business should never make a paying client responsible for the business’s error/mistake, and the cushions were entirely the fault of the business in this case. Phong said it wasn’t fair to expect him to fix them for free when the costs of supplies had increased over the last year; not a word about how he couldn’t be bothered to stay on top of things to correct his mistake. In fact, he solely blamed ME for the problem at hand. So, after giving him nearly $2,000, he refused to fix three cushions that shouldn’t have been made incorrectly in the first place, unless I paid even more money. I’m a single parent, and this is by far the greatest investment I’ve made into furnishings for my home, so unfortunately I’m stuck with his poor workmanship since I can’t afford to have them fixed by another business, nor should I have to when HE is responsible for results I wasn’t consulted about in the first place. His behavior was unprofessional and, quite frankly, rude. I’ll take my business elsewhere and recommend that anyone reading this review follow suit.
