My review from 2 years ago is below and as I said we wouldn't hesitate to use them again. And we did. They just completed the back section of our fence (we didn't need it done the first time). They were polite young men who were on time and meticulously put our fence in. It is straight, sturdy, and exactly what we agreed on. Working with Greg was easy and he got back to me quickly with any questions I had. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Southern Maine Fence to anyone.
After making the first phone call, Ryan had someone out, who gave us a quote right away. His team was professional, friendly, conscientious, respectful with such attention to detail. The fence is not only beautiful, but it is solid...top notch construction. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Southern Maine Fence installed a quality fence at a competitive price. They were also prompt and friendly. Very happy with our experience.

I am completely delighted with the fence I got from Southern Maine Fence. I never thought it would look this good I had pictured it so many times, but never pictured this! Already the cedar fits into the environment, and looks perfect. I sent a photo to my sister and she said it looked "like it should always have been there." I am so pleased with the results. My contact person was Greg, who was very professional and understood all the logistics of the job.The crew that was here was so nice, very respectful, very good vibes. I would thoroughly recommend their services.

It pains me to write a negative review but I am hopeful that by doing so, a little more oversight will be implemented by this company for future projects. I will start with the positive for our residential guardrail project. Ben was initially responsive to my inquiry and was out for an estimate the next day. The installation occurred about two months after I was told it would, but to be fair, it did rain pretty much all of June which I am sure backed up the queue. With most fencing companies booked out for half a year and with the urgency of needing this installed before winter because of a pregnant wife, I was just happy it was getting done. The project lead, Ryan, was also very personable and instilled confidence that the job would be done well. I was provided with an example photo of what the finished product would look like.
Unfortunately, the three men who installed the guardrail clearly had no experience with such a project and did not really know what they were doing. The first red flag was when they asked whether the 2x8s should be in front of or behind the posts. I was unable to monitor the project all day as I was working. I was not expecting the posts to be sawed right at the top of the 2X8 as that lessens the stability of the product. The top of the posts had been crookedly lopped off with a Sawzall. The final result was not like any guardrail I have seen before (see photo with only one horizontal board) and did not resemble the example photo I had been provided. I reached out to Ryan that afternoon and, to their credit, they did come back the next day to add another row of 2X8s. While they did agree to remove some of the cost associated with the extra lumber, for a total project cost of nearly 6K, I expected better structural integrity.
The biggest issue is that where the boards join the posts is not even near the middle of the posts which substantially weakens the structure. The off-center attachment has also caused splitting of the wooden post after less than one month since installation. I now need to spend time and money filling in gaps that have already formed due to the poor craftsmanship as evidenced in the photos.
The aesthetic final result from afar is nice, but I do not have great confidence in the overall product.
Considering the seeming professionalism of the foreman and owner as well as many positive reviews of the company, I feel I was unlucky and perhaps got a lemon. Ultimately, we received a product that was neither as advertised (i.e., did not look like the stock photo we were shown beforehand) nor structurally in line with the necessary requirements of a guardrail to perform its intended function – stopping a car.

Fantastic experience! I heard from Ben shortly after requesting a quote online, and he was out to discuss the project within a day or two. I had a quote a few hours after that, and we were on the schedule for 1.5 months later (perfectly reasonable). I got a call from Ben this week (about two weeks after receiving the quote) to see if we'd like to do the install that day! That worked just fine for us, and Steve and his crew were installing the fence by the afternoon! They were incredibly professional, consulted us on a few questions of preference, and did an absolutely amazing job on the fence! It was originally intended to block direct view to the street, but they did such an amazing job, it's like we have a whole new yard! Highly recommend.
