What a great product! We have had these blinds for close to 12 years with wonderful results. Just the day to day shielding from the strong sun on different sides of our porch is a blessing!
Recently one of the blinds was not working. We called the company on Friday and spoke to Ryan. On Monday morning the crew came out and inspected all 3 blinds. A plan was made, parts were ordered and within a week we had functioning blinds! Not only did they repair the one blind that was not working, but we had all the engines of the other blinds cleaned along with the blinds themselves. I have not 3 new blinds that are so quiet!
This company was easy to work with over the phone and at our home. I really cannot say enough good things about our interaction with Coastal Awnings and Hurricane Shutters.

We purchased the Storm Tex patio screens by Alutech. The installation was challenging and we had a issues with water coming in behind the motor mount. Kenton and his team stuck with us to resolve the issues. I give his customer commitment 5 stars. We love the screens. We face the sound and these screens provide tremendous wind protection from the northeast blows. We generally put them down at night to protect from the occasional thunderstorm that rolls through keeping all the furniture on the deck nice and dry.

I just had Bahama shutters installed on my house and they are GORGEOUS! I just can't stop looking at them. They really look great and are of great quality. The price was very reasonable as well. Both the office staff and installers were very nice to deal with. Thanks for the yard sign. I'm sure they'll get more business from it because the shutters are just stunning. One of the installers mentioned that the foyer window on my second floor would look great with a Bahama shutter, so I'm having that one done also. Thanks again for a fabulous job and product!

We have been meaning to comment on our experiences with Bobby Berckman’s “Coastal Awnings & Hurricane Shutters” for some time, but it took the hellish winds of Hurricane Florence to finally motivate us. The experience we had may help other people contemplating the large expense of protecting their coastal homes with hurricane shutters, and help them make a good choice in who to trust.
We did some leg-work and some research before investing thousands of dollars to protect our home. We visited another hurricane shutter business and had them come to our home to measure and quote for the project. There was something that left us feeling uneasy. Since it was a sizeable and important investment, we decided to look a bit further and see if other companies in the area sold and installed hurricane shutters. Fortunately, that is how we came to meet Bobby Berckman in his showroom at 5300 High Street in Morehead City. He is friendly and professional, but you won’t see any advertisements on television.
Bobby politely offers his recommendations, he sells and installs superior quality products, he has long term and well-trained employees who take the time to install the shutters correctly, and he is competitive with his pricing. He also has been in business a long time.
We own a three-story home that faces the waters of the Pamlico Sound. The wind and rain can be frightening, even without a hurricane. The solar heat from the sun is really strong on the hottest days of summer. Our home has three porches facing the water, a fourth porch on the front side, and the windows are large & tall on all sides of the house. The view is terrific, but the risks with heavy winds and wind driven rain are what concerned us. Hurricane Florence proved our concern to be correct.
After Bobby came to the house to measure, he recommended Nautilus Metal Rolling Shutters for the windows and doors. He recommended SuperMax Hurricane Roll Down Shutters to protect the porches. The SuperMax shutters are made of fabric like that used in bullet proof vests. Besides protecting from hurricanes they can be lowered as needed to serve as a sun-shade. We also lower them as needed to protect our porch furniture on rainy days. Most recently, we purchased a third product called Secure Door to protect our garage doors from caving inward or being sucked outward from hurricane force winds.
We are cautious people, especially with big expenditures. So we asked Bobby for references. He didn’t hesitate. We called the people and went to visit their homes. One of these customers was a retired engineer who had researched the Nautilus Metal Rolling Shutters versus the competing product sold by the other company we first visited. Check the specifications. The Nautilus shutters are far superior in quality of construction and warranty, and also carry an additional superior strength certification for High Velocity Hurricane Zones in Florida’s Dade and Broward Counties.
Below are “before” and “after” pictures of our home with Hurricane Florence. As you can see, the white fence and decorative lattice was ripped apart by the wind. The top of our roof was destroyed by wind leaving a gapping hole at the peak. Our windows, doors, porches and garage doors were protected, and came out of the storm just fine.
We firmly believe that without Bobby Berckman’s expert installation and the various types of shutters that he recommended, our windows or doors would have been breached and our home’s interior brutally ruined. I should mention that Bobby has also installed shutters at three of our neighbor’s homes since installing ours. We definitely believe that Coastal Awnings & Hurricane Shutters was the best choice.

Great value and superior customer service!
Thank you Bobby Berckman! We actually tried another shutter company so we learned value is more important than price. Especially at the beach, with its constant corrosion, quality materials and professional installation is most important!
