DIYers beware. Great delivery and selection of products, but lacks transparency and communication skills.

Had a conversation with one of the sales reps and was told I could come in and look at the boards. Was told the differences between the board types and quality. Was even given a great tip about joist tape, but when I ordered the next week it felt like I was dealing with an antiquated sales system and representative.

They took a decent amount of time getting attempting to get my address, email etc all correct. I then ordered the deck boards we talked about. Yeah... Deck boards are usually 1x6, but we talked about 2x6 in person. I'll accept some fault not confirming those sizes, but neither did the sales rep.

Boards come extremely fast, but the delivery driver never knocks or has me sign for delivery. I go check and they are the wrong size. I call and schedule the return.

Upon trying to reorder I asked if they could refund me $30 of the $60 for being charged for the delivery fee and the return fee. I am told from the sales rep that I "should have learned" from my 15 minutes in the warehouse about deck board sizes. Yeah man. I don't do this for a living. Sorry that I don't have the 40 years of expertise to know to double check the guy that has been doing this for 40 years. I learned my lesson though. I don't trust that sales rep now and I will not send folks to deal with that sales rep. He could have said no to the adjustment of price and I would have been fine with that. Now I'm out $60 and am left with a bad taste after dealing with the sales rep.

Overall

American Cedar has a much higher grade of lumber than the big box stores along with a knowledgeable staff. They have been very pleasant to deal with and accommodating in helping me find the products than meet my needs. I am so thankful to have them as a resource because you cannot create a good stable project without good wood.

We were working with Emanuel on a door and window quote. Apparently our project was too small potatoes, so Emanuel (who had been very responsive and helpful up to this point) felt he had to get his boss, Paul Sessum, involved. We were very surprised to receive a call from Paul telling us to kick rocks. Apparently, not only is our project too small but they don't like dealing with homeowners, who make a lot of mistakes. That seems like a unhelpful generalization and a great way to ostracize customers. If we would have simply been told that our project wasn't a good fit during the quote process or subsequent conversations, that wouldn't have raised any red flags. However, the unexpected and unprofessional call from Paul didn't leave a good taste in our mouth. Sounds like some customer service training needs to happen at American Cedar & Millwork.

Overall

Being the top screen porch company in the Raleigh area (Pro-Built Construction) and "the most demanding customer" at American Cedar, I need a lot of attention and I need deliveries to be on time every time! American Cedar (Kenny and Paul) have done this time and time again. They are, by far, the best lumber supplier in the area! They have the best premium wood along with the best customer service!

I decided to replace the surface of my deck as a DIY project. I had looked at the big box stores and they were not fully helpful and wanted me to tell them what I wanted. I worked with Emanuel Gomez at the Raleigh store of American Cedar and Millwork. He was very helpful with samples and with a couple of pictures of the deck and the sizes and a explanation of what I was trying to do he worked up a list of materials and explained what I would need. The Material estimates were very close and delivery was very good. If I would do another project where I needed lumber or other related products, AC&M would be my go to store. Emanuel was really good to work with.
