Dumbo Moving was by far the worst moving experience I have ever had in New York. “Dave” the main contact person is extremely untrustworthy and I would caution anyone doing business with them.

First, each box and furniture item were packed neatly by my gf and I, unfortunately I wasn’t there to monitor them loading into the truck from my apartment. (1st mistake) The movers themselves were quite rude and were given specific drop off instructions to which they didn’t follow and just proceeded to call me at work 3 times. I again relayed the instructions and they hastily loaded said items. After they completed the move I was texted and haggled for a tip. I couldn’t believe the audacity of these movers and I’m glad I didn’t respond with giving them more money especially after seeing the condition of the items.

Per the pictures attached, this is how I received the items. It was as if the items were literally thrown into a truck. There were rips in my lamp shade, massive chips on the corner of my desk, cracks in my computer monitor, boxes had large gashes in them as if someone was trying to see what I had inside. Some items in boxes were completely broken upon arrival and liquids had
spilled from the boxes being flipped upside down.

I immediately called and spoke with “Dave.” He assured me to send him pictures and this would be taken care of. We agreed on a settled amount which didn’t even come close to the total amount of the items I had to replace, by the way. He assured me a partial refund would be issued back to my original payment.

It’s been over two months now and Dave avoids my calls and emails. He refuses to pay, so I initiated a charge back on my credit card due to this. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you use another moving company in the city. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had moving and caution whomever is thinking about using Dumbo.

Dumbo company has been great for me. This is the second time I hired them for moving.
Jay - from office is always attentive and makes things happen exactly how i needed them.

Steven and his coworker did an extraordinary, fast, efficient job. I’m so thankful for them.

I will recommend Dumbo anytime. They have great prices and they work amazingly well. For me efficiency is the most important thing and they always make it happen.

I literally JUST moved into my new apartment and am writing this review asap to share how positive my experience was with Dumbo Moving. I’m actually so surprised at how different my experience was compared to other recent reviewers’ experience… that said, I don’t have a lot and my furniture is uncomplicated (nothing too expensive so I was willing to take the risk despite the reviews). It was just me moving into a studio apartment so I did not have a lot of furniture (a desk, a bed + bed frame , bookshelves, two lamps, multiple boxes, etc.) but even still, the prices were so much more affordable than any of their competitors. (One of the quotes at a different moving company had me at $800!) To compare, Dumbo Movers only charged me $220 for 2 hours of work. Not only were the movers themselves great, but the customer service representatives that helped organize logistics with me were very communicative and reliable (they called often to ensure alignment of plans and did not leave me on hold when I called them). And again, the movers were excellent. They were efficient, considerate of my things, considerate of my time (as I was being charged by the hour) and made sure to communicate with me about when they were coming and where I wanted my things set up. One of the men even took time to help replace a shower head in my new apartment! I will say that it helps to be friendly and it doesn’t hurt to give the guys a variety of refreshments, which is a small token of thanks considering them having had to walk up and down 4 flights of stairs… (sorry lol) Anyways, my point is: my experience was very positive and I look forward to relying on Dumbo Moving for their services the next time I move. I think this is a good and affordable service for someone who has a simple set up & might just need some man power to help them move, but yes, if you have more expensive furniture or a lot of furniture, maybe the risk is not worth it.

My table was broken, my computer desk had no marble surface on top which they lost it or broke it, my luggage were tossed out on the floor, my coat rack missing one part in the middle, they didn’t fix my bed; left my bed telling me to give them extra $ for that, but I paid for full service , my tea cups and bowl were shattered in pieces. They don’t care as much they told us during negotiation for price. They charge you more than 3 times in order to price up for guaranteed price. They scam you

This was my first time using movers to move my furniture to and from and it was a nightmare! Save yourself the trouble and headache and steer clear of this company. Their workers are customer service care team are completely unprofessional, untrained, and lack People skills.

I scheduled the window from 1pm-4pm. I had to consistently reach out to the company for an ETA once it was 2pm since their word the day before was they would call prior to my window time to give me and ETA. That was strike one. 4pm arrived and still no movers on site, I reached back out to have customer care lie and say they are on site since it was 20 minutes ETA since they last reached out. 6:10pm and they pulled up. My husband and I entire day was a waste. Both guys, LOUIS and LUCA walked in completely smelling of smoke and looked high did not introduce themselves to us they just went straight into asking what items we are moving. When I asked them questions, they were uncertain and ignored it. LOUIS was not even helping to move, instead he was "supervising" the other guy, stepping out for smoke breaks and taking personal calls in his cell phone.

They did not handle wrapping and caring for my furniture pieces appropriately, instead broke drawers, scratched wood pieces and did not wrap some pieces entirely. I'm addition, they did not know how to dismantle my reclining sofa! They reached out to their service rep PETER and he spoke to me stating that I would need to get the 'sofa doctors' on site to figure it out. He quoted me an additional $450! My husband and I YouTubed how to dismantle it and figured it out on our own. What a waste of time!

The movers got done moving everything from the first location after 1030pm-11pm. Then offloaded at new location after 1pm! This was a total nightmare. PETER was extremely disrespectful and kept talking over me when I was trying to explain that I needed a few items removed from my invoice and adjusted. Raised his voice and disregarded my concerns. Save your money and use another company.

If only I could give ZERO rating to this company. You want to avoid these people at all cost. Initially, the representative was very nice, sweet and helpful. He told me that I only had to pay 1 trip and would provide me with a truck that would fit all of my furniture and boxes I sent him the pictures. Hence, when the movers came, they were unpleasant, rude and aggressive. Firstly, they sent a small truck instead. Also, they already stuffed 2/5 of the truck with their boxes and items, so our stuff couldn’t get in. Moreover, they forced us to take the 2nd trip and charged us a total $700, including the tip to be paid in cash. Otherwise they wouldn’t move our stuff if not get paid on the spot. While it was our last day in the old apartment and we couldn’t find another moving company. Lastly, none of our furniture was covered and protected, even our 50” flat screen TV. Our TV stand and book shelves got broken and peeled. These people are CROOKS. BE AWARE!!!

Note: the pictures are their stuff in their truck occupying more than 1/3, after they moved out our stuff. Then we found out this was the reason our belongings didn’t fit in it, even though during transaction they convinced us they all would fit in.

We previously used Dumbo for two local moves in NYC and had a great experience, however as other reviewers have noted the company seems to have gone downhill recently. We used Dumbo again last month for a long distance move from NYC to Pittsburgh. While the customer service for booking over the phone was great and the price was fair, the crew they sent to do the move did a terrible job. Many pieces of our furniture were damaged (hardware was broken off of a vintage dresser and a chunk of the wood chipped, the corner of our dining table is chipped, our marble coffee table is chipped, the leather on and expensive custom made chair is marred and scratched, the wooden arms of our futon have big paint scuffs on them). None of the damage was disclosed to us by the crew, although they clearly knew they broke the hardware on our dresser as we found the broken pieces inside a drawer. They also scratched the floors in the living room in the home we moved into. The house was built in 1890 and has original antique parque floors that we had just had refinished prior to moving in.

We booked a full pack and half unpack, any items that were unpacked were carelessly strewn about, no effort was made to put them away. Clothes were dumped in heaps in the closets. When packing my husband’s record collection, they started to pack them stacked on top of each other which damages the records, instead of standing upright in a file (my husband ended up packing the records himself).

I don’t ordinarily leave negative reviews of business, but I was very disappointed with the service we received from Dumbo, especially compared to our experience with prior moves with them. I wrote them an email with photographs of all the damage we discovered after the move and got no response whatsoever. I would not recommend Dumbo Moving and will not be using them again.
